Thamara Kannan (Lotus Krishna)
Lord Guruvayur Krishna, depicted seated on a lotus, holds deep mythological significance. His innocent smile brings enlightenment and happiness to devotees, symbolizing a pure and blissful mind. The depiction of Thamara Kannan holds a special place in the mythology of Guruvayur Temple. Once, the revered sage Vilwamangalam Swamiyar wished to see Lord Krishna seated on a lotus. In response to his wish, Guruvayurappa appeared in all his divine glory, seated upon a lotus with butter in one hand. When the Melshanti came to open the temple door, Krishna playfully rushed inside the Garbhagriham through the side wall of the Sreekovil. Even today, this sacred painting of Thamara Kannan can be seen near the Garbha Griham of Guruvayur Temple, serving as a constant reminder of Lord Krishna’s playful and loving nature.
